Positions for postdocs and graduate students affected by the war in Ukraine
Perimeter Institute (PI) is offering positions in theoretical physics for postdoctoral researchers and graduate students affected by the war in Ukraine. These positions are open to graduate students and postdoctoral researchers whose study or research has been interrupted by the war in Ukraine. Citizens of all countries are eligible.
- Final-year master’s students will begin a PhD under the supervision of a PI Faculty member, enroll at one of PI’s partner universities and will be supported for the remainder of their PhD degree.
- Current PhD students will work with a PI Faculty member for the duration of their stay at PI, typically for up to 1 year.
- Postdoctoral researchers will join PI’s collaborative and interdisciplinary environment for up to 1 year.
Program duration: Up to 1 year for advanced PhD students, and postdocs. Support for beginning PhD students will typically be for the remaining duration of their degree.
Program start date: As soon as September 1st (start dates will be arranged individually with successful applicants).
Funding: PI will work with all successful applicants on a case by case basis to assess funding requirements.
Application deadline: December 2022 (applications will be reviewed as they are received). Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis until all positions are filled.

No. The program is for graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, or researchers of any citizenship who cannot start or continue their planned course of study or research due to the war in Ukraine. This includes students and researchers who were at a Ukrainian university in 2022, and those who were supposed to move to a Ukrainian university later this year.

Yes the PSI master's program. The PSI program is 10-month master's program in theoretical physics. Applications will open in October 2022, the admission process will take place in February 2023 and the next program will start in September 2023.

- If you are a citizen of Ukraine, you should apply as soon as possible for a visa (and open work permit) through the Canada-Ukraine authorization for emergency travel (CUAET).
- If you are not a Ukrainian citizen, you should wait until you are accepted to the program to apply for a visa.
- Vaccination or a valid exemption is required to enter Perimeter Institute.
- Ukrainian citizens who are not vaccinated are allowed to enter Canada under CUAET. COVID-19 vaccines are free and easily available in Canada.
- With limited exceptions, citizens of other countries must be vaccinated to enter Canada.
